Berlin-based photographer Stefanie Schmid Rincon presents a visual framing of American patriotism in a series of subtle but striking photographs.
“After spending three months in the U.S. in the summer of 2016, I realized that every five minutes you are reminded that you are in the United States of America. There is a flag in almost every corner: on houses, on clothes, and even on the street signs. Coming from a country like Germany, where patriotism is seen in a completely different light, one could never imagine such a thing. This phenomenon really caught my attention, and I focused my series on it; not only on the flags as such but also on all the motives that resemble the colors of the American nation.
This series was shot on 35mm film–in the streets of New York and the on the country roads between NY and Portland.” – Stefanie Schmid Rincon
